Written Comprehension

1.    Your neighbours may need your help to mow their lawn, rake the leaves ... Gardening offers good exercise and it is a nice way to get to know your neighbours. You will need to be in good shape because manual labour can be exhausting.

2.    If you love animals, why not consider being a dog walker or a pet sitter? Many pet owners feel guilty about being away from home all day, and they would happily pay you to give their pets some extra love. What is great about this job is that if you are an animal lover, this job will hardly feel like work! 

3.   Being a tutor is the perfect job if you are considering being a teacher, or if you excel at one or more of your school subjects. You will make good money and have a lot of practice at your favourite subjects. You will also experience a huge feeling of accomplishment. 

4.    Many restaurants look for staff through word of mouth, so do not hesitate to ask the managers of your favourite restaurants if they need any help. Working as a waiter is a great way to meet people and practice your social skills. Waiters often get good tips. But this job can also become stressful and some customers can be very fussy. 

5.    If you love being outdoors and do not mind being away from home, camp counselling is a great way to enjoy the summer. This job will enable you to socialize with new people and do all sorts of activities with them. But you must bear in mind that camp counsellor is a seasonal job and that being in charge of kids is a big responsibility. 

6.    Being an office intern in a local business is an interesting way to know more about the world of work. This experience will be extremely valuable in your future resume and might lead to a long-term, high-paying position. Unfortunately, most internships are unpaid, and you will probably be asked to do a lot of boring work at first. 

7.    Babysitting is definitely for you if you love being with children. Babysitting jobs are compatible with other obligations like schoolwork and extracurricular activities. You will always find a parent who needs a babysitter and babysitters are paid well. But you must be well prepared for this job because it involves big responsibilities and dealing with children is sometimes difficult.
