How to write a cover letter

Everybody needs to write a cover letter to apply for a job!

Your cover letter may make the difference between obtaining a job interview or having your resume ignored.

So let's have a look at how to write a good one!

What is a cover letter?

It is a document sent with your resume to provide additional information on your skills and experience.

A cover letter should complement, not duplicate, your resume.

Its general organisation is very formal and you really need to pay attention to following the rules.

Your cover letter will include the following elements:

   1. Which job you're applying for (include the job title in your opening paragraph)

   2. How you learned about the job (and a referral if you have one)

   3. Why you are qualified for the job (be specific)

   4. What you have to offer the employer, and why you want to work at this specific company (match your skills to the job description, and read up on the organization’s mission, values and goals to mention in your letter)

   5. Thank you for being considered for the job

Here is a model to write yours

Now, write your cover letter and show it to someone who can correct it.
