LADY DIANA

 

In 1981, Prince Charles announced his wedding to Lady Diana Spencer, an English aristocrat. 

Diana was just 20. Prince Charles was 33 and the future King of England.

The couple married on July 29th 1981. 

600,000 people were on the London streets to watch Charles and Diana. 

In the world, 750 million people watched the wedding on TV. 

Diana and Charles had two sons: William in 1982 and Harry in 1984. 

The Royal Family were formal and distant; Diana was friendly and easy to talk to. She was very popular. 

But Charles and Diana had problems and they divorced in 1996. 

On August 31st 1997, Diana died in a tragic car accident in Paris. She was only 36. 

Two billion people watched Diana's funeral. 

The Prime Minister, Tony Blair, called her "the People's Princess".
