The Arnolfini Portrait – Jan van Eyck

This painting shows a man and a woman standing in a bedroom. They are wearing rich and elegant clothes, which suggests that they are wealthy. The man is wearing a dark coat and a large black hat, while the woman is wearing a long green dress and a white headdress.

The couple are standing in the foreground. They are holding hands and the man is raising his other hand. At their feet, there is a small dog.

The room contains many objects. On the right, there is a large red bed. On the left, we can see a window. In the middle of the room, a chandelier is hanging from the ceiling.

One of the most interesting details is the small round mirror on the wall behind the couple. We can see the room reflected in it, including other people and the painter himslef. Above the mirror, there is also an inscription.

The painting is extremely detailed and realistic. Van Eyck carefully painted the clothes, the furniture, the light and the different objects in the room.

Many of these objects may also have symbolic meanings. For example, the little dog is often associated with faithfulness, while the objects and expensive clothes show the couple's wealth and social status.
