It is the year 1850, in Edinburgh, Scotland. 

John Gray, a policeman, lives with his wife and his two children. 

To help him protect the city, John takes a dog, a Skye Terrier called Bobby.

Together John and Bobby walk in the streets of Edinburgh.  They are very good friends.

At 1pm, everyday, they have lunch in a pub near Greyfriars Kirkyard.

In 1858, John becomes ill and dies.

He is buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard. 

Bobby follows his coffin and refuses to leave his master's grave.

The gardener of Greyfriars tries to chase Bobby from the Kirkyard but he finally let him stay near John Gray’s grave.

Every day, at lunch time, Bobby goes to the pub near the Kirkyard to have lunch. 

He becomes very famous and the people of Edinburgh take care of him.

For fourteen years, the dog sleeps on the grave until he dies in 1872.
